PADI Underwater Navigator Specialty Course at Underwater Vision
What will you learn?
You’ll learn the tools of the trade, including navigation using natural clues and by following compass headings. During three scuba dives, you’ll practice:
- Navigation patterns
- Natural navigation (without a compass)
- Compass navigation
- How to “mark” or relocate a submerged object or position from the surface
- Underwater map making
- How to follow irregular courses with the Nav-Finder
- Dive site relocation
- How to estimate distance underwater
You may be able to get college credit for the Underwater Navigator course while on vacation in Utila.
Also, the first dive of this PADI Specialty Diver course may credit as an Adventure Dive toward your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification – ask your instructor about earning credit.

Visit Underwater Vision to enroll in the course and get a PADI Underwater Navigator Crew-Pak that includes your manual and video. By studying before class, you’ll be better prepared to start practicing your navigational skills when you meet with your PADI Instructor.
The Prerequisites For This Course
In order to take this course in Utila you must be:
- A PADI Open Water Diver or PADI Junior Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification from another organization)
- At least 10 years old
