Mikey first fell in love with the ocean when he met his childhood sweetheart whose dream it was to swim with Dolphins. At 15, Mikey couldn’t afford this so he bought her a ‘blow up dolphin’ and a paddling pool instead and said “I can’t take you to the dolphins, so I’ll bring the dolphins to you”. From there he indulged his life’s efforts to the aquatic world.
Mikey studied Biology for 3 years and gained a Masters Degree in Wildlife Filmmaking. After completing his degree he began working as a commercial diver for the BBC’s Natural History Unit in Bristol, United Kingdom. Mikey has worked for National and International Programs such as, ‘Spring Watch’ and ‘Really Wild Show' but his proudest accomplishment has been working alongside David Attenborough. Mikey has also made several documentaries promoting Shark and Grey Atlantic Seal conservation.
During his travels Mikey has had the opportunity to dive in South-East Asia, South Africa, South America, Middle-East, Europe, and even some Ice Diving in Russia.
In 2016, he came to Utila as a Divemaster and a Commercial and Technical Diver. Having seen the lifestyle that a PADI Instructor can lead on in paradise, he decided to stay and become and Instructor as well. Mikey, continued his education by completing his PADI IDC, PADI MSDT and PADI IDC Staff Instructor ratings.
His passion for diving is only matched by commitment to inform, educate and spread the word on environmental conditions affecting our oceans today.
